Course overview:
This new course, designed and led by members of Blooming Change, will inform independent mental health advocates on the realities of life for children and young people in mental health units.
Supported by Article 39, Blooming Change is a group of children and young people with experience of mental health units. They work together to make mental health units, and the laws and rules that they follow, much better for children and young people.

Course aims:
The course will:
- Increase advocates’ knowledge on the realities of life in a mental health unit from the perspective of children and young people, including the long-term effects of being institutionalised and the use of outdated practices;
- Challenge assumptions made about children and young people in mental health units; and
- Enhance advocates’ ability to communicate with children and young people in mental health units to better understand their views, wishes and feelings.
