Abuse in institutional settings: How much is known?
Article 39 briefing on freedom of information research we carried out in 2015, to find out the prevalence and nature of abuse allegations made by (or about) children in institutional settings. Our Director reported key findings from this research at our national seminar with the National Children’s Advocacy Consortium and the National Association of Independent Reviewing Officers on Defending the rights of children in the care of the state, held at Matrix Chambers (London) on 20 November 2017.

National standards for the provision of children’s advocacy services
Department of Health
Article 39 is pressing for the revision of the statutory standards for advocacy services for children in care and care leavers. We want them to be expanded to cover all of the different settings and scenarios in which children and young people are entitled to help from advocates. For now, advocacy services must follow the 2002 standards which can be downloaded from the UK Government’s web archive here.
