Introduction to children’s rights and advocacy (in honour of John Kemmis)

Be a children’s rights champion! A course for children and young people to learn about children’s rights and being heard and respected.

Post-its on board

Date and time:

2025 dates coming soon.

What will this training course be like?

There will be a small number of children and young people in each course and two people from our charity (who run the training). Together we will do different activities which are about children’s rights and being heard and respected.

The training will take place online so you will need access to a computer, Tablet or smartphone. We will use Zoom.

During the training, we will not ask you any personal questions. We will respect you and we will listen to you. The atmosphere will be relaxed.

After the course, we will ask you to fill in a short online survey to let us know what you thought about the training. We will not ask for your name in the survey. Hearing your views and ideas will help us make the course better.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes! Every child and young person who takes part in this training will be awarded a certificate of achievement from Article 39.

Can I take part?

You can take part if:

  • You live in England; and
  • You are aged between 13 and 26 years old; and
  • You have ever needed help to be heard, included and respected when adults (other than your family) were making decisions about you; and
  • You have access to a computer, Tablet or smartphone and can join us individually using Zoom.

PLEASE NOTE: To join us, you must be able to switch on camera and audio on Zoom. It’s easier to have conversations when we can see and hear each other!

Why is it called the John Kemmis children’s rights training course?

John Kemmis worked with and for children and young people for over 50 years. He was deeply committed to children’s rights and wanted every child to be respected, listened to and safe. He had very difficult experiences while at boarding school as a child. This made him stand up for children throughout his adult life. Very sadly, John died from cancer in 2018. His grown-up sons, Oliver and Luke, raised money for our charity so we can run this course and do lots of other great things to protect children’s rights. John was a brilliant children’s rights champion and we want to follow his example and inspire others. We hope you will join us!
