Join Article 39's zine team!
UPDATE: we are very pleased that we have received lots of applications to join the zine team! Because of this we have now closed the invite to apply to join. If you have any questions or would like to know about other opportunities to get involved at Article 39, please get in touch with Millie at millie.hall@article39.org.uk
At Article 39, we are putting together a zine (a small magazine) for our annual Change through Advocacy project. This year, we’re sharing thoughts, messages and stories connected to advocacy. Our theme, ‘Moments of Gold’, explores those moments of support, understanding, joy, hope and empowerment that can happen even in the most difficult times.
If you are interested in sharing real stories, amplifying the voices of young people, and using creativity to make an impact, we would love you to join the zine team.
What would I do in the zine team?
There are two different types of roles in the zine team:
✏️ Editor – as an Editor, your role could include:
-
- Setting the vibe – Helping with the direction of the zine.
- Gathering content – Collecting stories, poems, and more from young people and advocates.
- Putting it all together – Helping with layout, proofreading, and getting the zine ready to print and publish.
🎨 Illustrator or designer – as an illustrator or designer, your role could include:
-
- Illustrating stories – Using drawings, collages, digital art and more to help tell the stories.
- Making pages engaging – Adding backgrounds, borders, and other creative layouts.
- Designing the zine cover – Creating front page artwork that sets the scene.
Who can join the zine team?
- Are you aged 26 years or under?
- Do you have experience of:
- Being helped by an advocate or trying to get help from an advocate; or
- Being in care; or
- Living in an institutional setting like a mental health unit or prison?
- Can you attend at least 3 online meetings using Zoom?
If yes, we’d love to hear from you.
You do not need to have done anything like this before, and you do not need to have particular skills or experience. Whether you are shy and quiet or bubbly and chatty – you are welcome to join the team!
This project will run throughout March and April, with at least three online meetings. For each meeting, your time and expertise will be acknowledged with a £30 gift card. There will also be opportunities to contribute more in your own time as well.
How do I apply to join the zine team?
Please fill out the form below to register your interest by Friday 14th March.
IMPORTANT: We have limited spaces on the zine team, so please be in touch as soon as possible. We will close this invitation if all the spaces become full.
